She had no other words for this feeling. She had sobbed, she had screamed, she had cried her soul out to the heavens.
It was as if her life had been pulled from underneath her, as if nothing mattered anymore, as if this feeling of coldness, this numbness that permeated so much deeper than the times that she had killed was going to be all that she could ever feel for the rest of her life no matter how hot the fire blazed about her.
They had taken everything from her, and all that had been left she'd torn down for herself.

My only job

converting oxygen
into
carbon dioxide.
tilting
the pill bottle between my fingers
as I wonder if I should.
pretty melodies
as the pills tumble
from one side to the other.

pills, no, these are
my momma's pills, but she's not
using them anymore.
